Yeomanry Cavalry |
British Yeomanry Cavalry are a service which especially interest me. The archetypical volunteer or citizen soldier, even the title harks back to the Yeoman Bowmen of England. I am currently working on creating a section of Yeomen to represent various periods throughout their history, below are images which we have used to date. Me on Uther as a Trooper of the Castlemartin Troop of the Pembrokeshire Yeomanry of 1797. Below, two young Yeomanry recruits of about 1914, farm boys, good riders, need to train them to look a bit more soldierly. In 1907 The First Aid Nursing Yeomanry, FANY, was raised from 'Ladies of genteel birth', to follow the Yeomanry into action. Of course, in 1907 it was still unthinkable for Ladies to ride astride. Demelza riding Uther side saddle. Chris Winstanley on Derfel as a Trooper of the Duke of Lancasters's Own Yeomanry of about 1912. Actor Arthur Lowe, Captain Mainwaring of Dad's Army served in this Regiment, but I doubt that he looked like this. |
